Jo's Story

​

We have a tight-knit family and spend most of our time together either around a dinner table or in the kitchen, so it’s safe to say that we’ve always been into our food. 

​

The reason I first started getting into healthier cooking though, was to encourage my husband to eat a more balanced diet just after he had his stroke. We were looking for a healthy breakfast that tasted great and would help him regain his strength. 

​

After reading that oats lower cholesterol, nuts lower blood pressure and seeds reduce blood sugar, Granola was the obvious choice: It was quick, easy and packed full of protein, fibre and micronutrients. Just what his body needed! 

​

The options at the supermarket were admittedly varied, but whilst visually appealing, more often than not, they were a little disappointing and rarely lived up to what the packaging promised. As such, I set out to make my own. 

​

We all still remember the first batch coming out of the oven. The kitchen was filled with the most incredible aroma and the granola itself looked and tasted delicious. It wasn’t perfect by any means but it sparked something: Every batch since the first has been slightly tweaked and tuned to make it as good as it can be. Most importantly, my husband loved it! In fact, he has had it almost every morning since then (even when we go away, we always pack a large bag of it to take with us).

5 years and 298 batches later, we’ve now landed on a recipe that I am proud to be able to share with you.

We’re only just getting started on our journey, but from putting pen to paper for that first recipe to planning how to grow our business, our mission has remained the same: To make simply delicious, nutritious granola in the very best way possible.

​

As for the name? It's a bit silly really; my granddaughter, who was just learning to talk at the time, heard my son and husband calling me downstairs. Mum & Jo merged and I've been 'MumJo' ever since.
